On the driver side door the stupid bumper on it keeps wanting to peel off. A few times I have taken some glue and glued it back but it didn't help. Well I went ahead and removed it and the other 3 doors will follow.

I used a small flathead screw driver to pry it a bit so my fingers could get a hold of the molding. I ripped off the molding and saw there was much work to be done.

A trick I used to remove the badges off the car worked great on removing the old sticky crap. Fender Thin guitar picks.

Took me 30minutes to remove it and it didn't scratch the paint. All whats left to do is use googone and buff and polish it.

You'll like the look without those pieces. Makes the car look much smoother.

I am almost sure the paint under the strips will be darker(less faded) than the surrounding areas. That even prompted one guy to but tape and put them back on.
So don't throw them away!

See, I think those serve a functional purpose because I have personally seen them work on my car. Otherwise I'd have dents.
Also, after seeing people's cars in person that have the bumpers taken off, I really am not a fan of the smooth-side look.

But, to each his own, if that is your thing, go for it.

I need to do this for mine. My passenger side door was messed up so i got a door from the junk yard and had Maaco painted it to the right color. The only problem is that i didn't realize is that there were heights for this POS for different years/ different trim. So now this moulding doesn't line up across the passenger side! The problem is that if I remove the moulding on the door that was painted, then it would reveal a part of the door that wasn't painted... then I have to buy spray paint... man!

Ohh that reminds me - a guy at Carlisle had taken the front door strips and put them on the roof , kinda like fins - It looked surprisingly sharp. His Trep was a Nascar replica though.

I'm sorry, but that sounds like an awful idea.

Faded paint depends, I had problems a bit with bubbled paint and such, and also a body shop painted around one at one point, but it still isn't terrible. Eventually I'll get the doors repainted so it looks right.

The pieces help, but if another car is significantly different in height then it can still cause dents.

My thing with door dents is that my insurance will cover it and popping out door dents isn't too hard.

Well then you will definetly have to go to maaco again because the spray paint is off a decent amount as far as matching. I'd never take those things off it looks ok anyways.

I'm sick of having to deal with double sided sticky tape. Doesn't hold long enough and just takes a bit of water and the grip is gone. I have no idea why it started to peel like that, might be from the sun hitting it day in day out.

If I do put them back on I am going to use a glue and also paint them black. Anyone willing to do a quick photoshop on what it would look like?

They may take away from the overall look of the sides, but they do serve a purpose, to protect somewhat against door dings... I personally like looks without, but i do like the dings savings

Well I reak of googone and got the crap off on that door. The paint matches just fine but for some reason theres a brown ghost mark that is around where the bumper was. I scrubbed it for a good 30minutes and nothing. I even tried zymol and a clay bar and no luck. The only thing to do is color sand it out but im too afraid to do it since a few other spots I have done has turned faded.

3M body tape. I have yet to have it fail on me. I have regretted losing my balance and sticking it to the wrong spot, however.

Thats why when you take them off use a spray bottle with soap and water. spray it on while pulling it off.
