Well I am finally getting at fixing my Dads 94 LHS with the 3.5. I also plan on taking pic's along the way just for the hell of it.

The Problem:
Coolant is going somewhere and is unseen.

I checked under the oil cap and the is no usual white goo so I don't think it is getting into the engine. My guess is it maybe a head gasket and is leaking into the exhaust port. I am going to start taking apart the upper intake tonight and more if I have time. I bought myself a chilton's manual to help me out and see what the torque specs are.

Now here is where I need help to anyone that has done this. There is one special tool that is required to align the camshafts when putting the gears back on. It is the camshaft alignment tool. The picture looks like 2 pieces of metal that hold it in place somehow. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get this tool or if anyone done this before. I might try to go to the local dealer and beg for them to led it to me since I would doubt they would need it all the time.

So far reading the book it looks about 1000% easier then the Jeep especially with only one special tool. I also already put a timing belt and water pump in the car about 1k miles ago so that is one less thing I have to worry about. Only thing I am worried about is bolts breaking off. The car has only had about 30K miles put on it since it was bought about 9 years ago. It has sat a lot for different periods when the tranny went out and when this happened about 1 1/2 years ago. Also has a number of other problems since it was sitting from the alternator locking up to the brakes are shot.

If anyone can give me some pointers for this journey let me know. I will need all the help I can get!

yep that is exactly what I was talking about! Well at least they are not to expensive. When I was looking for the special tools for the jeep to buy them had to be bought as a set that was around $1000. I was able to get away without them though. I will see if I can borrow them from the dealer though. They don't usually lend them out but I wouldn't think they would need them right away if a car came in that needed a head gasket replaced. What would be the odds? lol

So far I got the intake off. I need to go buy the thing for the fuel rail. They are not in the way really so I might even just leave them on. Now back on to the front end!

So far the upper and lower intake are off, radiator out, and timing belt is out. I was trying to get the bolts off of the cam shaft but they kicked my ass. Anyone know if they are reverse threads? I am going to go to the farm and get out the 1/2 breaker bar or if the 3/4 breaker bar has a 18mm socket I might try using that too.

Turned out to be a number of things...

Upper rad hose had a small leak at the little spring steel hose clamp.

And some coolant was leaking from the new'ish oem water pump (failed) inside the timing belt compartment. New NON-plastic replacement has been running like a champ for years now.

Sounds better than head gaskets!
