View Full Version : Auxiliary input jack for 2002 Special?

Are there any kits out there for a 2002 Special that offer an auxiliary input jack? I'm really tired of burning CDs when I have an iPhone sitting in my cup holder not being used. And if there isn't a kit, is the 6 disc changer in the 2002 Special compatible with mp3 cds?

You can buy a Chrysler Ipod adapter if you have certain radios.

Sweet. I guess I'll just have to try it out then.

How do I know if my radio is compatible and where can I find this adapter?

Do you have a cassette player? If so monster makes really nice adapter cables for that... I have one for sale (10 shipped), lol. The sound quality is really good actually. Better than my FM transmitter but I need to have my ipod get charged also, so I use that transmitter.

I wish I had a tape deck, as backwards as that sounds. Lol. If I did, I would have already went out and bought an adapter. I used one with my XM Radio a few years ago and it sounded great.

LOL turns out I do have a tape deck. I didn't realize it until this morning. Looks like I'll be making due with the tape deck adapter until I can afford to upgrade my stereo.

Also, I think DrDodge was a little confused. I tried an mp3 cd in my Special today and it returned with a "Err" message. So, a burned audio cd with mp3s will work (of course), but a full 750MB mp3 cd will not.

There was a Chrysler MP3 radio that fit our oval radio area..... it was single disc and for the life of me I cannot remember the sales code. I seem to recall it being a Jeep option. I don't think it had CD changer controls..... but I could be wrong.

For now I'm VERY pleased with my RBQ 6 disc ans iPod adapter kit.

I know Tom (Shadowvox) has one, he was looking for one for forever and a half!

There was an LH car made with both CD and cassette?

LOL is that uncommon or something? I've seen plenty of cars with cd+cassette players. Here's a (bad) photo of it I took a few days after I bought it. I zoomed in so you can actually see.

I got this for my trep and my wife's pacifica.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-Audio-Electronics__Chrysler-02-07-Auxiliary-Input-Adapter-RCA-XM-iPod-MP3_W0QQitemZ270229585453QQadnZCarQ20AudioQ20Q26Q2 0ElectronicsQQadiZ2812QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3756 .m20.l1116

Works like a champ, and much cheaper than the OEM kit. Plugs into the 10 pin CD changer adapter, and still allows for the changer hook up if you have one. Change modes and away you go, it comes up "XM radio" on the display. It has RCA inputs you can hook just about anything into. I believe they changed to the 10 pin connector in 2002.

lol, yep my RAZ unit has both CD and cassette. Also had pretty damn good sound output and RDS. Got it from Shadowvox, he gave me a really good deal.

Doesn't say it still allows for the Changer to hook up???

Anyways, I have two tape adapters.......one the mechanism kept screwing up on ($8 Phillips brand), so I bought a second really cheap one ($4 Chateau brand). I was really happy with my first one besides the mechanism.....so when it screwed up again, I decided to unpackage the $4 one.........BIG mistake, wow the sound quality was CRAP on the $4 one. Almost as bad as using an FM tuner. I've been VERY happy with the sound quality of the Phillips tape adapter.

Yeah, that's a changer buddy.......that means you have a head unit with a cassette player only, not both. Changer is a separate unit.

Get what I got. Gives you 3 AUX in.

You'll want the X3 Brain Unit and the X3-CHRY04 Interface Adapter. Whole thing runs under a C note.

As others have said, you can get the OEM Ipod adapter on eBay for 100-150$, the radio that reads MP3s is the RBQ, I think it came in the grand caravan and certain jeeps. It also came in the pacifica but has a different face plate.

I think the MP3 playing radio was certain versions of the RAZ. Apparently there were a few different versions of the RAZ and some supposedly play MP3s. I've got an RBQ in the Silver R/T and I'll try a burned MP3 CD in it to check but I don't think it will.

Edit: Just tried 3 different MP3 burned CDs in the RBQ and all give a "CD Error" on the display and get ejected immediately.

What radios had the dot matrix display like that that were compatible with the Over-The-Air song information broadcast system.
