First, thanks to Luis (Luisa) for the power supply. Also thank you to Ferenc (Ozzy) for the photos from his M console to steer me in the right direction.
This is certainly not a difficult mod/upgrade, but I was a little surprised at how much disassembly was required, so I decided to document it here in enough detain that anyone could do this, even if they had never pulled their car apart, like most of us have done so many times. Hopefully it will help somebody in the future.
This mostly applies to later model Intrepids, which suffered from the cost cutting, and did not get this option like M's Concordes, and LHS models.
Start to finish was about 45 minutes. It will be a bit less if you have an existing harness in place to connect to, and are not stopping to take photos.
Tools needed
T-15 torx driver
Phillips screwdriver
Wire cutters, pliers, and two scotch lock wire taps (if no existing harness)
1 Put your parking brake on, turn the key to on, and shift the car out of Park to Low. Loosen the set screw in the back of your shifter with a T-15 Torx driver or 3mm Allen wrench, pull off the handle and set aside.
2 Remove the shifter Bezel by simply pulling up at the rear corners, and lifting it off the shifter. Disconnect the 2 wiring connectors, and set aside. You can now shift the car back to Park, and turn off the key.
3 If you are lucky, at this point you will see another connector for the console supply harness. I did not. I took my radio bezel off, and pulled out my RB1 in hopes of finding it by tracing wiring, but no such luck. I ended up using two wire taps, and connecting the supply wire to the existing wiring for the ashtray outlet.
4 Remove the 3 console lid screws with a T-15 driver. Set aside the lid.
5 Remove the three phillips screws at the bottom inside of the console.
6 Remove the 2 screws at the top of the cup holder assembly, and the two at the bottom with a T-15. Remove and set aside.
7 Unsnap the rear part of the two floor side panels from the console,
and pull it away from the sides of the console.
8 Remove the two screws from the bracket just below the radio/changer that hold the front part of the console in place. T-15 again.
9 Lift the rear of the console up, and from underneath, blindly find the two T-15 screws that are holding on the cover that is over where the power supply will mount, in cars that do not have one. Remove the two screws, and the cover.
10 feed the power harness for the console power outlet under the console, and up through the newly exposed hole. Connect it to the power outlet, insert the outlet into the hole, and screw it into place, using the two screws from the donor car.
11 feed the power line along the inside of the console, and up into the "trough" above the air vent leading to the back of the console, then out through the slot next to the power connector for the shifter PRND2L display.
12 If you have the connector for this already in place, connect the new harness. Otherwise, Cut it to length, and use two wire taps to connect it to your existing power outlet wiring. Not you will still have to observe the total amperage limits of the circuit. If you are ambitious, you could run a separate fused power line. I'll never exceed the limits, so I didn't bother.
13 Test the supply to make sure it is working.
14 Reassemble the reverse of the disassembly, making sure to test your original ashtray outlet, and the EL shifter display are hooked up and working, release your parking brake, and enjoy your new power outlet!
Here are some photos of the process described above.
