I had forgotten about that. I know I personally felt it was childish and antagonistic when I first saw it. So much so I had not been back to that thread since it was first created. Only reason I went back into that thread was cause I saw Tom had posted in it and knowing their history, I was curious as to what was said.

This is why:

Some posters don't post ANYTHING on this site (since they voiced their opinions and decided to leave) other than bashing and saying annoying things.

While I feel Kyle used to be one of those posters, who'd only come on here to take shots at me, I've recently seen that he makes many helpful posts (such as the ones in Brian's transmission thread), and I have no issue with the guy anymore.

Take a look at Tom's profile. He's made himself the title "The Great Segregator" or something and doesn't post here anymore at all, unless it's to be involved in drama. This is very unfortunate; Tom's a very knowledgeable poster who used to contribute a lot to these forums.

Same goes for Ron... except he doesn't come around anymore at all. He used to be a quality, helpful poster when he was around, and he decided to leave too.

Other noteable names are Doug and Shawn. No idea why they decided to pack up and leave, but their absence is certainly noticed.

Anyway, end of rant. I really do wish things would end though... people said I cause drama? Someone find ONE post of mine that's questionable in the last few months... yet the shit starts.


Yes, I take full responsibility for reporting Tom's post, because I felt it unnecessary, the same way I felt about his comment on my Facebook album about my Altima where he said "Whose car are you pretending to own?" when I have my entire family, friends, and social circle on there. I deleted that too.

In hindsight, you may have been right. If I hadn't reported Tom's "blah blah blah" post, it would never have been deleted; no one would have gotten worked up over a deleted post, and this thread wouldn't have been created.

Although; I personally believe that Tom only made that post to perpetuate the drama. Remember the time a couple members from over there decided to bump up every single thread I'd ever created? They do it; and not just to me. The "Whore Thread" over there, even from before I got banned from DI, consisted of crap-talking members over on this site.

One member makes a post; and the rest go and perpetuate it and shit hits the fan. Frankly, I discussed this with Ryan a few weeks ago when I learned I was getting the car, and I initially decided I wouldn't make a thread.

However, we are an ENTHUSIAST site, dedicated to our mutual enjoyment of cars. I got a car; and I plan on doing some minor mods to it (tint's done, rims, sound etc), and I enjoy taking pictures. I took some pictures of the car, and that was it. It shouldn't have to explode just because some members don't know how to behave on a public forum.

Honestly, I take responsibility for bad behaviour on my part in the past, but if this site is going peacefully, why make drama to disrupt the peace just because YOUR site (I'm NOT referring to DI) is failing as a whole?

BJ is my friend. He's been serving and warned everybody that he won't be posting for a few months where he won't have regular access to a computer or something along those lines. We exchange friendly PMs every now and then, and still did up until the time he left.

If Club300M didn't work for that reason, then neither of these sites should work either. Club300M didn't work because it was based on spite and had no "new members" and added nothing to this community that wasn't already being done by either DInet or LHF, and you KNOW that. The only active thing on that website that wasn't anywhere else was that god-forsaken Chatbox, and that is no different than the Whore Thread on DI. The members were the same. In hindsight, you may have been right. If I hadn't reported Tom's "blah blah blah" post, it would never have been deleted; no one would have gotten worked up over a deleted post, and this thread wouldn't have been created.

Although; I personally believe that Tom only made that post to perpetuate the drama. Remember the time a couple members from over there decided to bump up every single thread I'd ever created? They do it; and not just to me. The "Whore Thread" over there, even from before I got banned from DI, consisted of crap-talking members over on this site.

One member makes a post; and the rest go and perpetuate it and shit hits the fan. Frankly, I discussed this with Ryan a few weeks ago when I learned I was getting the car, and I initially decided I wouldn't make a thread.

However, we are an ENTHUSIAST site, dedicated to our mutual enjoyment of cars. I got a car; and I plan on doing some minor mods to it (tint's done, rims, sound etc), and I enjoy taking pictures. I took some pictures of the car, and that was it. It shouldn't have to explode just because some members don't know how to behave on a public forum.

Honestly, I take responsibility for bad behaviour on my part in the past, but if this site is going peacefully, why make drama to disrupt the peace just because YOUR site (I'm NOT referring to DI) is failing as a whole?

Come on fellows lets try and get along. Yes I hate it too when people claim things that are not theirs but I just let it slide. I bought my first car myself, but my parents also gave me a car.(it was far from new).
Yes people with money do give their children things us working people can't afford,and probably never will but that is life. A friend of mine was bought a brand new Charger SRT8 for graduating University by his parents. All through school him and his brother had everything they wanted, but I was still his friend. Why be jealous? I take better care of my car then they do theirs, because I paid for it, I know how hard it is to make the money to keep it going. They don't have the ability to say they paid for it, or they worked on it.
The pair of them are Dodge freaks, one even has a '69 Charger that won best in class at Carlise a couple years ago. The only thing he can say is he had the wallet to pay for the restoration. I work on my own car(things I can) and I take pride in that. People that have things bought for them or pay for things to be done loose out on a lot. They don't learn anything, and they can't take pride in their own abilities.

To answer some questions and to state what I think...

I'm completely with Chief Brody in a lot of what he said in this thread. While I do now agree that "blah, blah, blah" was irrelevant and somewhat childish, let me and everyone else come to that conclusion ourselves. To delete it cause it offended Adi was the WRONG move in IMO.

Since when was censoring the best way to bring about justice and keep the peace? NEVER. I've made my opinion about Tom and his posse (lol, I'm just playing) very public. But it's frankly insulting to the rest of us for the moderation team to keep deleting EVERY little thing that offends Adi. Let us come to our own conclusions. Even Brad said it above.

So no, it's not that I'm allying myself to any side. I just want shit to stop getting deleted cause it hurt someone's feeling or someone got offended by something that technically broke a friggin rule.

So let's say it was me on the moderation team, I would have left Tom's comment alone. In fact, I might even quote it and say something like, "Didn't your mom ever tell you that if you have nothing nice to say..." And leave it at that. That would have a hell of a lot more effective in letting everyone else see who Tom really is.

I don't like the ownership of DI.net still, even though I've decided to make that my primary home.

Dan is about the only one who I would say counts as the voice of DI, and because of that he is a very civil leader of the site that doesn't get involved in any of this.

I post occasionally when I find something that interests me here, as I am purely a content driven person. I check the new posts every time I log on and look at every page. As for the moderating, I don't disagree with deleting bullshit a lot because taking things way off topic in your own thread is infuriating. The balance is in deleting harmless discussion and removing the ability for the community to move through the situation in its own way. If others see it as just another empty post and move on, thats fine too. Dan brings up an excellent point here....no one marches to my drummer except for me. I do my own thing here....the sad fact about it is this...I have been around long enough in this community to have an opinion, and I voice it. I don't care who that pisses off. You don't like it, don't read it. In fact, I have been around longer then some of the staff of this site have been able to drive.

I think some things need to come clean around here...I think the staff has been keeping things from the membership. For example....
-Is this site generating revenue from ads on a hidden share or server?
-Has the ownership of this site changed hands? It is common knowledge that offers have been made to buy it (by Ryan)
-Is Adi paying protection money or bribing the staff for preferrential treatment? He offered me bribe money to keep him on Club300M.

For all the talk about Ryan being holier than thou, and this site being not-for-profit...I think I have raised enough evidence to get people wondering.

1) LHF is NOT FOR PROFIT. It doesn't mater how much some website says its worth, its NOT FOR PROFIT. There is no second server for ad revenue. Where are the ads? I don't see any... so where is the profit coming from?

I'm not entirely in disbelief. Some of what I have seen doesn't surprise me in the least. I am very disappointed, however. I started this site with money from my own pocket, which I never even paid myself back for. I have been approached about placing ads on the site and it can generate a fair amount of revenue, but I refuse to do so. I said from the start that as long as I could afford to keep this site online, there would never be any ads. I also said that I would never make a profit from any donations or membership fees, and have never put a dime of site money in my pocket. I am a man of my word and this will remain the case as long as this site exists. Mike has been generous enough to host this site for free, and he is the only reason why I have been able to keep the site going without ads. He, like me, cares about this community and is not in it for any potential monetary gain. Furthermore, I have put in literally hundreds of hours of my time setting up this site and keeping it going. For what? All of you. Anyone who wanted to come here and contribute in a positive way was welcome and could enjoy it here without having to open their pocket or stare at ads. The Carlisle trophies last year - guess who paid for them? Me - out of my own pocket because I wanted to do something nice for everyone who attended.

I have been away from the site for some time because I have other things in my life that are more important right now. I had a few days off this past week so I spent most of the day Christmas eve and the night before working on some upgrades to the site that I had hoped to implement soon. I am really glad to see that it was time well-spent. I thought my next post would be to talk about them, not to come here and write this. The barrage of e-mails and phone calls I've been getting here at work made it necessary for me to come and see what was going on though.

I do not know what happened as far as moderation, nor do I care. Yes, sometimes Adi whines about things that are no big deal and that is why I ignored the reported posts I got over the weekend. However, I have a very real problem with people who only post in a thread he starts. It does not matter how innocent or non-inflammatory your post may seem out of context. If you're posting in his threads only and you're a person with a vendetta against him, it's not hard for a reasonable person to believe you are attempting to provoke him. Everyone seems to think Adi should be banned because his threads turn into flame wars, but fail to realize that if you ignore his threads and don''t bother posting in them, no such issue can arise. For this reason, anyone who knows their post may start something going is just as guilty, if not more so, than he is. Until I see him break any rule, he is free to visit this site just as anyone else is. If you think this is censorship, then you're beyond my help.

What's with all this hate about some advertisements anyway? I'd have no problem if there were ads on here so long as they didn't go overboard. Ads bring revenue which goes to fund things like hosting, server upgrades, software upgrades, prizes for contests, etc. The revenue they create helps fund improvements to the forum, at least that's how it is on C&G. Thanks to the ads we were able to upgrade the forum software, move to a VPS which didn't suck, and upgrade it. No one sees profit from it, all the money goes to better the site for the community. Plus, you can always just, you know, ignore them (however, clicking Toyota ads costs Toyota money ;)). So yeah, I ads don't bother me because they are important. I'm amazed Steve pays for this site out of pocket and my hats off to him, but I certainly wouldn't hold it against him or any of the staff if ads were included so as to help fund the site. That stuff's not free you know.

As for all of this cross site hating, I don't get it, and quite frankly, I'm sick of it. What I know is this: I joined LHF first and then DI.net, and while I visit both regularly, I find myself preferring DI.net because not once since I joined has this sort of drama showed up, and the mods aren't overzealous with the post delete button.

As an admin, I know moderating can be an unpopular job, and there's a lot of judgment calls to make. However, because I moderate, I also know that the post deleting on this site is out of hand. If the post is insulting or offense such as making fun if a region someone lives and they take offense to it, stereotyping, and so on, yeah it should be deleted and an explanation given. If its not a truly offensive post or an off topic post, say something about it, like "get this back on topic guys" don't just delete posts so that bits and pieces of the thread are gone and we wonder wtf is going on.

How is post deleting out of hand?
Read the rules, if a post is offtopic and adds nothing to a thread, or is not respectful of other members, it deserves to be deleted.
Every thread cannot be a haven for random crap.

If the post falls into these categories, I delete it.
If not, or if its a minor offense, I let it slide.

As for explanations being given every time I delete a post, thats useless and does nothing but create more drama between me and the original poster who wants to debate with me over why their post was deleted.
Even in this case, a reason was given, a damn good reason, and STILL people wanted to debate it.
Also, when a topic got out of hand and I used to post things like, for instance:
"Guys, get this back on topic, its getting out of hand."
SIMPLE COMMENTS like that were taken and blown out of proportion and people ran with them, posted images that said "In B4 Da Bin!" and the like.
Then people complained that I shouldn't be allowed to come in and say anything and I should just delete the posts when they violated the rules.
Now I'm in the wrong because I ended up deciding that that worked better.

If there's one thing I absolutely do too much of, its listen. To everyone, about everything, every issue, every useless whiny complaint from every side of every battle on these forums. And with all of the listening I do, I get to hear an endless mantra of demands and requests. I'd love to be able to release my AIM logs publicly sometimes, theres some laughable things in them.

I tell you what, for a volunteer job in which I try to do my utmost for this place, it sure is frigin thankless sometimes. For every bit of praise I get in the background from people too chicken to post in public, I've got 3 or 4 people complaining that "Really, you should have done X differently and you're a horrible moderator because you didn't." What they don't realize is that if they were a moderator, they'd have a whole different outlook on things.

I don't have every answer, I don't do everything perfectly, I'm human, I make mistakes, I'm donating my own time and effort and energy to do things for this forum, and frankly, I am starting to wonder why in the hell I bother, since no matter what no one is ever happy with what I'm doing.

1) I'm a member of this staff and I do a lot of moderating, so I take offense to your comments, whether they were directed right at me or not.
2) There aren't a huge number of posts I delete at any time on any given day. Matter of fact, there are some days I don't delete a single post all day while I'm checking the forums. You act like its a chronic problem, but since I'm the one clicking the button and I can SEE all the posts that are deleted even when they're gone, I know that is simply not the case.
3) Yeah, well, when they came out everyone got hissy about how they were Nazi rules, how hilarious that they're so similar to the rules on any other given forum.
4) It isn't about people being rowdy, its about some kind of warped perception here that post after post gets deleted, when that simply is NOT the case.
If people bothered to just post offtopic stuff in the offtopic forums and be respectful of others, I'd never need to delete a post. But, alas, sometimes people either make a mistake or can't handle that requirement.
And I've gotta be the guy who deletes the post.

If it were up to me, I'd say let up on the moderating to where there's basically none. Simply give a user one warning if they get out of line, then lock their account the second time. Mission accomplished.

Thanks for the advice Bruce, but if I hadn't learned that a long time ago I'd really have killed myself.

My reason for saying the things I say is not because I want sympathy, but because I want people to sit back and realize how incredibly ridiculous they are acting, how they all want something different from each other and that their demands frequently contradict each other... sometimes from the same people.

Yet I've been given the task of wading through them all and plotting the proper course of action. Sometimes a task a lot harder than it looks, but no one ever realizes it, even when I point it out.

As for being unsure, I appreciate the sentiment, but I know the rules and I rarely have a question as to whether a post fits into them. Sure, I've asked others opinions on larger issues, but not something as simple as one post.
Also, since I didn't delete this post, its not really my issue, I'm just defending a decision I would have made myself.

I do not know what all Adi has done in the past or anything (I joined DI.NET in 2007, then then one when it started), but the past is the past. When Adi was on AIM, he never paid me anything for me to be his friend. I do a judgement by what people say when they contact me (You can see how to contact me VIA AIM / Yahoo).

Oh yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it, or... learn from it.

Yes I agree with post deletion has started getting a little excessive, but as I stated above, it is to help keep this place clean and so people can find the information that is needed. All Off-Topic stuff should just remain in the Off-Topic section and not in the information threads. Also remember that all the cars we drive has been out of production for a very long time so lets make the best of what we got...

The major problem we have here is that there used to be more freedom. Unless a post was really offensive or a thread went completely out of control, it was left alone. This system worked, and it is the way I would like it to still be, but people went out of control and the number of posts that fell in to the category of off-topic but mild became so great, it was impossible to find most of the good info here.

So, I propose a solution we will implement on a trial basis. Moderation goes back to how it used to be - if it's not a really big deal, it will be left alone. However, if the problem reoccurs where every thread is getting hijacked and this place is out of control, the first phase will be to look for trolls who are posting most of the nonsense. This was the case before, and they probably should have been targeted first. These people will be warned once and then banned for 30 days. If this does not work and we have (mostly) everyone doing it, it goes back to the way it is now. I gave an inch and you took a mile. This is your second chance. Don't screw it up again or you have nobody to blame but yourselves.

I know it's got to be a thankless job no matter what, like Brucie said. Try running an amateur sports organization with 7 teams, 80 families and 90 players. Some people will love you, some will hate you. If your goal is to please everyone, you will never be successful.

I made an important decision at the beginning of this season which involved moving 2 of our talented players up to a higher age bracket, in order to solidify our team base and build for next year(s). The parents of the team they were pulled from still have spite against me, and claim they are going somewhere else next year, etc., and a couple of them probably will. But, in the end, our organization is stronger, and we can assure that any kid who wants to play next year will have a team to play on. So, it really does work the same way in the real world... just a fact of life... I wouldn't sweat it. You guys are all doing a great job, a job I don't see others lining up to do. Likewise, we'll see how many run against me for Pres in the spring. Probably the same amount as last year, zero.

Ryan, I'm going to publicly thank you for the service you provide. The same goes for Pat, Derek, and the other members of the LHf moderation and administrative staff. I've never been a moderator, but I can tell how difficult it is. It's same on any forum you go to, so don't let this BS discourage you.

Still, even when you say or think there is nothing wrong with your tactics, the fact that so many people are complaining should be raising some red flags. Andrew is right, far more posts get deleted and far more threads get locked than any other forums I frequent, and I visit many. In fact, it feels like LHf is the only one that does it. Sometimes it is indeed warranted, but other times it feels unnecessary. We're capable of getting things back on track on our own. Please try and let it happen naturally, rather than dive in at the first sign of derailment simply because someone reported a single post.




Last, who really gives a flying god damn ****ing shit what kind of revenue the site has? Unless you are a paying member, this site FREE to you! I have not paid any dues and do not intend to any time soon. for the simple reason that the incentive isn't good enough. For what it's worth, I only reported the post where he crapped in my Altima thread... after his posts on my Facebook were deleted and he was removed/blocked from my Friend list.

I think there's a false presumption going around that I report posts left-right-and-center. I have obviously reported offensive posts in the past, but this time, unless my memory fails to serve me right, there was only one.

Dan brings up an excellent point here....no one marches to my drummer except for me. I do my own thing here....the sad fact about it is this...I have been around long enough in this community to have an opinion, and I voice it. I don't care who that pisses off. I think some things need to come clean around here...I think the staff has been keeping things from the membership. For example....
-Is this site generating revenue from ads on a hidden share or server?
-Has the ownership of this site changed hands? It is common knowledge that offers have been made to buy it (by Ryan)
-Is Adi paying protection money or bribing the staff for preferrential treatment? He offered me bribe money to keep him on Club300M.

For all the talk about Ryan being holier than thou, and this site being not-for-profit...I think I have raised enough evidence to get people wondering.
I also think that if you go so far to protect one member (Adi) at the expense of others (Sander) you begin to play favorites, and alienate your membership. To do that over Adi is a joke....he brings nothing to the table. He complains about Chryslers, he lies constantly to the point where he can't keep his lies straight. he is destructive, and vendictive. He knew by reporting "blah, blah, blah" that something would happen. Don't think Adi is the innocent one here...he knows how to pull the strings. I have seen it in action with Ronbo...Adi has on more than one occasion stirred up that hornets nest, and has admitted it to me, Ron, and others.

So, I propose a solution we will implement on a trial basis. Moderation goes back to how it used to be - if it's not a really big deal, it will be left alone. However, if the problem reoccurs where every thread is getting hijacked and this place is out of control, the first phase will be to look for trolls who are posting most of the nonsense. This was the case before, and they probably should have been targeted first. These people will be warned once and then banned for 30 days. If this does not work and we have (mostly) everyone doing it, it goes back to the way it is now. I gave an inch and you took a mile. This is your second chance. Don't screw it up again or you have nobody to blame but yourselves.

I approve. I think that part that I bolded should, frankly, do the trick.

I thank the site ownership and moderators for all that they do in taking care of this site. You guys put up with a lot and will never make everyone happy, but I think you do try to be as fair as you can under the circumstances most of the time.

To my fellow members, I have been around this community since I joined DI.net in 2002. Which is a very long time.

I have made wonderful friends. I have had laughs, and most importantly, I don't take very much that seriously. It's the internet, and the people whom I like I will find and converse with, and the people who make comments against me and whatnot I will ignore. Pretty simple.

Reading threads like this one pain me. On one hand, I agree with it's original intent. I know that the mods were trying to do the right thing. I also think that most people are smart enough to ferret out the liars, over reactors and trolls themselves. It's up to us, however, to ignore those types of people.

I take everyone with a grain of salt, as, on the internet, there are a lot of folks that aren't of their word. I expect it. The people who are valid rise to the top because it's hard to keep up with those pesky lies. Those that I don't quite believe, I choose to live and let live and not take seriously. I'm sure others could do that and privately warn another member if they think they are being sucked in, without starting this nonsense.

It's time to quit the attacking and crazy stuff and just start rolling our eyes more, folks. Let the moderators take it from there and deal with the 'problem' sorts that can't.

Holy hell...on vacation for Christmas with no computer and look what I miss.

I have no use for Adi's posts or Adi himself. He and I have never crossed but I was able to judge other peoples' frustration after having done so and because of those experiences I mostly avoid him.

I do, however, like all of the people who have left because of him and they are all members who actually contribute and help. If your finger gets infected and is threatening your entire hand and even your life it isn't your finger's fault...but you still cut the goddamn thing off.

Steve has the right idea. I for one figure that if a sandy vagina's whining is ignored then maybe it can be run off or will put so many people on ignore that it has no use to remain on the forums any longer.
